Our Program

" As an interventionist I see Early Intervention as a very rewarding experience for all involved; the family is supported, the child is provided with opportunities to develop to their full potential, and the interventionists themselves are rewarded everyday by the smiles from the families participating in the program. "

Lori

The Eastern Shore - Musquodoboit Valley Early Intervention Program began in July of 2001 under the direction of Eastern Shore Learning Opportunities for Women (ESLOW). The Early Intervention Program is run by an advisory committee that reports to ESLOW. The Early Intervention Program's office is in LEA Place Women's Resource Centre. The Program receives partial funding from the Department of Community Services and relies on fund-raising for the rest.

We provide services to families on the Eastern Shore (east of Musquodoboit Harbour through to Ecum Secum) and the Musquodoboit Valley (Dutch Settlement through to Dean).

Our program can provide a number of services to our families, including:

  • home visits (that fit within family schedules, some evening visits available)
  • visits at the child's care giver or preschool setting
  • toy and resource lending library
  • accompaniment and / or drives for other professional visits
  • play groups for parents and children in partnership with LEA Place Women's Resource Centre
  • consultations to various child care centres on inclusion or any other topics relating to children with special needs
  • prepare for and assist in the transition to school (follow temporarily after)
  • facilitate team meetings with other professionals to establish goals and strategies

Memberships include:
The Early Intervention Association of Nova Scotia
Council on Exceptional Children - Division for Early Childhood
Canadian Child Care Federation
