" Early Intervention is a great benefit to any family with a child who has special needs. The Interventionist is there to talk about doctors' visits and to help make sense out of the many issues that have to be dealt with. They help you through the difficult struggles and celebrate the victories, just like a member of the family. "

A home-based support service, for a child with special needs and their family.
Visits are usually every 2 weeks (will vary as needed) and last between one and two hours. The Interventionist will bring toys and resources that can be used with your family. We will usually leave ideas and suggestions that can be worked on before our next visit. Family participation is integral in successful intervention.

A family-centred service helping parents to meet their own and their child's needs.
The family and Interventionist establish goals that fit within the household routine. Together the team (including other involved professionals) will assist the family in finding strategies to work on goals through out the day in the child's normal routine.

An opportunity for families to learn about a variety of useful community resources.
We can provide families with the names of other professionals and organizations in their community. We will discuss other necessary referrals (speech and language therapy, physiotherapy, psychologists, etc) and can initiate the process for such referrals. Interventionists will also discuss any play group, preschool, or other group setting options in your community.

An opportunity for parents to become knowledgeable consumers and advocate for themselves and their child.
Our goal is for parents to become the advocate for their child. Our role as staff should decrease as involvement continues. As the family becomes adjusted to their child's condition and family situation they will be able to take a more proactive role in their child's future.
